Turn it up to 11.

I'm a complete sucker for a good song. Catching the beginning of a favorite tune as it hits the airwaves can completely make. my. day. Dear Hubby gave me an iPod for Mother's Day, and I love it. But even the Shuffle Song feature cannot capture the natural high of that magical moment when I fortuitously hear every single note.

For one of the most important songs in our lives - a.k.a. The Wedding Song - Hubby wanted to make the decision on his own. In late 1995/early 1996, he had a load of great melodies from which to choose, including Bon Jovi's "Always" and "Tootsee Roll" by the 69 Boyz. But he went classy with Brian McKnight's remake of Van Morrison's "Crazy Love." (If I got my script correct, it's playing for your listening enjoyment - sorry if you hate that kind of thing - it's a temporary addition. UPDATE: I took the link off; it was driving ME nuts). I love this song. I love that he chose this song FOR me. The moment was perfect, and it never fails to make me feel very young and very much in love.

During the 12 years since we said "I do," a handful of songs have touched me that way, making me wish they had been around for The Dance. It just so happens that there are two on the radio right now:

Keith Urban's "Once in a Lifetime Love," and "I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz.

Every night, while I'm making dinner, the TV goes off, and the radio goes on. It forces the Boys to find something constructive in which to entertain themselves, and I get to be in a great welcome-home mood for Hubby.

Last night I was lucky enough to catch "I'm Yours" at that entrancing beginning guitar stroke, and the Boys and I had a great time boogie-ing around the living room. That young bride wouldn't believe the modern-day me, but I can say without hesitation that, that dance was even better than the one I had with their Daddy so long ago.

Those moments are way too few and far between in this house these days - I vow to do better.

Now it's your turn. I'm curious to know your wedding song. Which one would you choose today...

Apache by the Sugar Hill Gang...complete with the dance that goes with it.

Check out my flickr and you'll see...

It started to Chicago's You're the Inspiration, but after a record scratching sound it was "Jump On It"

I am horrified to say that I do not remember! It was something out of "Singing in the Rain" and we had a choreographed dance to it. I'll ask dh tonight-- he picked it so he probably remmebers! I love the Jason Mraz song to-- it is on my ipod. The songs on my ipod get me through a long tough run. Nothing pumps me up and gets me up the hill like a good rockin' song!

"Me and You" by Kenny Chesney. . . Hubby and I would probably still choose that song:) I love turning up the music and dancing in our house too. . . I think I'll steal your idea and do that during dinner-making time that is definitely the "witching" hour in our house!

We danced to a Van Morrison tune, also: Have I Told You Lately that I Love You. VM has a very sexy voice.

I love your Isak Dinnesen quote about salt water.

Since we managed to overlook that large detail of our wedding, our song became this vulgar merengue beat with a cow mooing in the background. It wasn't the first song we danced to, but it was the song that the DJ kept replaying after taking full advantage of our open bar. MOO MOO MOO!

You are a aggie, too? I didn't notice that you were a Texas blogger when I popped over here earlier. I may be heading to Aggieland this weekend, actually.

And Astroland IS still in Houston? I guess I had thought Fiesta bought it and changed the name. Maybe not. My google search only turned up Coney Island.

Class of 93 - whoop! Obnoxious I know, but I drank the Kool Aid and enjoyed every single second. Hubby and I met there our freshman year. K State fan?

It's AstroWorld (not land - kind of like Disney Cali vs. FL) in Houston. I think Six Flags owns it now. Important to note: one of my first concert experiences - Richard Marx under the stars. Sigh.

oh, this is truly sweet!

hub and i eloped after a whirlwind courtship, so the only music playing was the quiet whirring of the copy machine down the hall from the courtroom. the two clerks that were our witnesses did get a little teary, too! i think we finally did dance somewhere for something fairly related to being newlyweds and it was to "It Had to Be You".

oh, and hey, astroworld is GONE! it was sold off and torn down! i drove by there last april and it was just a flat piece of land. weird.

Wow Deb! A thousand apologies to phd in yogurtry!

I think I might shed a tear. My teen years were spent at AstroWorld.

It sucks where all the places you from your childhood are gone. First Fulton County Stadium, now this news.

Old fart.

Do you know how much I love Brian McKnight?

His version of "Crazy Love" makes my toes curl.

And, I am with Stephanie, "I'm Yours" makes me giddy.

We chose Me and You by Kenny Chesney when we renewed our vows and finally had our big wedding. There are too many great songs out now that its too hard to choose and chances are we'd stick with that one, but I do like I'm Yours by Jason Mraz
