Anxiety.
And that was before I sat down to focus on a single topic from this week.
Head exploding.
There is so much happening that honestly I don't know where to begin. Therefore, this week, I'm going with a highlights reel - things that happened the week of June 22, 2009, that you should know...
1. Another politician was caught with his zipper down - turns out South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford (R) was actually banging around the Argentinian bush (sorry, too crass?) instead of knocking around the Appalachian Trail, as his representative claimed. Yet another wife is scrutinized for her role in her husband's infidelity. Yet another resignation called for. Is it just me, or is infidelity one of those things that's easy to grab hold of and act all righteous about? BTW: has anyone heard from John Edwards lately?
2. Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad went in for the low blow and called Obama "Bush-like" (are you noticing a theme this week?). Poor Obama - it's damned if you don't, damned if you don't. Turns out, once you start down the path of hands-off diplomacy, some countries are going to hold you to it. This has been an interesting story to watch, besides the horrible bloodshed of course, in that I think the Administration is learning no matter how much bowing, apologizing, back-stepping you do, there are still going to be some countries who don't play by the rules, and will hate us no matter what. Go figure. I wish I had the answer for this one. How do you solve a problem like Mahmoud? And seriously, what the hell is up with the Memebers Only jacket? No July 4th picnic for you!
3. Kim Jong Il continued to act like an ignored spoiled child by threatening to "wipe out" the U.S. if provoked. Remember that scene in "Raiders of the Lost Ark" when Indiana Jones finally gets exasperated with the situation and just shoots the machete-wielding bad guy? Yeah, that's what I want to see. Dude, just go away!
(side note) Does anyone know if we're still at war in Iraq and Afghanistan? Before the election, body count and media coverage. After the election, none. I know there are a lot of other important things going on, but am I being cynical with this? Please remember our soldiers.
4. President Obama commandeered ABC Wednesday night to not answer a lot of healthcare reform questions. (On a personal note, good call not bumping "Wipeout.") I TiVoed the program in order to learn more about how we're spending even more money we don't have, but after the reviews the next morning, I deleted the damn thing. My current insurance doesn't cover psychotherapy.
5. While we're all sitting around watching 24/7 coverage on the Death of Pop King Michael Jackson, a little ditty going by the name of H.R. 2454 or Waxman-Malarkey, excuse me, Waxman - Markey Bill is being "test" voted upon in the House today (6/26).
In an effort to educate without spin, I'm offering a selection of links in which to pick your poison:
Fox News unbiased take on it.
CNN's unbiased take on it.
Clean Coal's unbiased take on it.
Wall Street Journal's unbiased take on it.
Huffington Post's unbiased take on it.
All the "facts" are important, but this about covers what I want to hear from ALL (D and R) our "leaders" concerning Global Warming and Fossil Fuel elimination...
"Dear ignorant citizens, we're finally going to cut through the b.s. and tell you that this is going to suck. Like in a very big way. We have no definitive information confirming that CO2 is a bad thing, but we do know that our dependency on fossil fuels has got to stop. Therefore, you must prepare yourselves now because the next 30 years or so is going to be recorded in our history books as the "Great Transition." Get used to $5/gallon gasoline and electric bills that rival your mortgage payment. Why are we telling you this? Because we are tired of being the parents that pat their children on the head and say trust us while we lie about how the shot really won't hurt that bad and that the medicine really doesn't taste like bootie. Those millions of jobs we're promising, yeah, those aren't for you. Or even your children. They are for your grandchildren.
You think the "Greatest Generation" made the biggest sacrifices? You ain't seen nothing yet.
But we're America, and we can do this together. So go ahead and sell that big house, get rid of that gas guzzler, and start planting that Victory Garden!! We will prevail! Even if China keeps their economy booming by spewing their pollution all over Mother Earth."
Upate: 10:55 CDT - it passed the test...
6. And finally, we lost three entertainers:
Ed McMahon died (6/23)
Farrah Fawcett died (6/25)
Oh, and Michael Jackson died (6/25)
(In a sign that the Apocalypse is only moments away, I agreed with Hugo Chavez this morning when he stated that Michael Jackson's passing was "lamentable news;" however, the media was giving it far too much attention. FYI: The Today Show is currently pushing into hour two of their tribute.)
I did hear Hugh Hefner breath a sigh of relief and embrace Jackson's death as bittersweet since these things do tend to come in threes.
Well F.F.F.T.ers, I think that just about covers everything. Please let me know if I missed something that caught your attention.
As I mentioned above, Summer Vacation plans have finally arrived!! I cannot wait to stick my toes in the sand, and watch the boys meet Mickey Mouse for the first time. As of now, I'm officially turning off my t.v. and closing down my link to CNN.com. I pray that when I get back to F.F.F.T. (July 17), I will have nothing about which to rant.
Sadly, I'm pretty sure I will.
Friday's Food for Thought" is just an excuse for me to shoot my mouth off on whatever hot button topic happens to be rattling around in my head. Please don't click away mad if I touched a nerve. Call me out if you think I'm full of it. I always enjoy a respectful rebuttal. For F.F.F.T. only, I will post answers in the comment section in order to keep the dialogue open. Peace.
(I'm continuing to welcome anonymous comments - besides you NavyWife. If you're a regular reader, but hesitate to expose your political thoughts, please feel free to leave a comment without your name. Do know that I will be watching though, and will delete anything that's ugly or a personal attack. Let's just be nice though, shall we - I really don't have time for that crap.)

I'm pretty sure you'll have lots to talk about by then! LOL
Have fun at the mouse. Take a flask.
Have fun on your vacation. And relax, it will all fall into place. No valium needed. But if you lived closer I might be able to help.......maybe, lol.
Have fun on your vacation! While our politics often differ, I do so appreciate your FFFT posts!
I very much agree that we need to remember our soldiers, and yes, would someone PLEASE just get rid of Kim Jong Il.
I do also agree that no matter what you do, there are going to be those who just won't follow the rules and play nice, but I also think that if that's such a problem for the rest of the world, they need to step up and not just wait for the US to do something about everything. If we keep trying to fix everyone else's problems, there's gonna be no one here to fix ours.
Thanks for your always honest take on the goings on!
Again, have a great vacation!
The Hugh Heffner joke was the best!
Happy vacationing!
Em,
Once again you made me laugh out loud. Your #1 was frakking hilarious, I was laughing so hard I almost fell off my counter stool.
l. What a coward. I mean please, he could have kept this between him and his wife. He didn't have to disappear like that. Make's me wonder what exactly that Argentinian woman did to him. Maybe something new we haven't heard about.
What he said in detail about this on national tv will scar his children for life. I mean he really had to say all that. Is there nothing sacred!!! He wants others to suffer just because he suffers because he had to break with her. He's no man!!!! He's a coward!!!!
Don't cry for me Argentina!!!!
2. Bush-like!!! lol. All I have to say about this is that Obama should never be afraid to speak the truth, we will all stand at his side and back him up for God's sake!!!
3. North Korea can go bomb itself!!! And it makes me so MAD when our troops are not mentioned. They are still there, by the way. Risking their lives for us, it breaks my heart.
4. It's pretty bad when we have a president who cannot take criticism. Makes you wonder why he's not man enough to take it. I mean if you really believe in what you are doing, there shouldn't be a problem and there should be an honest answer for all that is asked you.
5. Farah, Ed and Michael Jackson's death sad and painful for his family and friends, just the same as when we lose the ones we love. Can't watch the tv anymore!!!!
Couldn't watch the health care speech either.
Em, looking forward to next FFFT.
Have a wonderful vacation. Everyone deserves to get away from it all every now and then and enjoy life!
Take care, Joyce
Sorry, but you don't "borrow" valium. It comes at a high price my friend. Sanity ain't cheap.
Wait, Michael Jackson died?!?! I hadn't heard!!
I don't have any political thoughts but I do wish you the best vacation ever!
So much information here. I seriously am very impressed at how well you keep up with all of this. (the political stuff). It's so important, but how many of us can say we really have a clue what's going on? Kudos.
The Heff joke was BRILLIANT of course!
Have a great time on your vacation.
Too bad Sydney from Alias has retired. We sure could use her butt-kicking ways.
heh heh
And don't worry, Glenn Beck will keep us apprised of the economic apocalypse.
He loves doing that.
I love your rants!
Are we still at war? Or are we just not allowed to talk about it?
I almost shot the television when I watched the Todays show coverage of MJs death. They are mean, accusing a dead man, attacking his friends. . .. apparently RIP is a term they are not familiar with. I'm tired of hearing about it, but when they talk about him, I wish they would do so respectfully.
Enjoy your vacation but I'm guessing there will be plenty to rant about when you return. But int he meantime-- forgetaboutit :-)
"I did hear Hugh Hefner breath a sigh of relief and embrace Jackson's death as bittersweet since these things do tend to come in threes."
okay- this frickin' cracked me up!
and why is it that when an (R) dangles his tallywhacker the other R's say 'give him a break' But when a (D) does it - the R's rake him over the coals?
Isn't there such a thing as Bi-Partisan Bootie Calling?
Have fun with you boys at Disney! You are going to have a blast, such fun memories:)
Annie - it was the first thing I packed :-)
Denise - I hope you're correct my dear, about it all falling into place. It does seem to work itself out in the end, doesn't it? Thanks for the offer to help!!
Rebecca - aw, thanks for reading my stuff. I never mean to be mean, I just want to get rid of the demons in my head, you know? I totally agree that we can't always be the "bailers," but I'm afraid the majority of the world has gotten rather complacent with us in that role. Maybe with the step back, others will step up.
JO - hee, hee. That was a little homage to Joel McHale.
Joyce - glad I could offer an almost fall-off-your-stool moment. Because really, without laughter, most of us would crack. Thanks for all the thoughts!! A+ for paying attention in "class." ;-)
Michelle - lol! After I posted I thought the same thing. I should have gone with "bum" - can anyone help a sista out?
Kristina - girl! You've been hiding under your Snuggie again, haven't you?
Jen - totally cool to obstain :-) Thanks for the vacation well wishes!!
Heather - I'm afraid I ignored most of the last 12 years because of marriage and giving birth. Becoming aware does come with a high price - what's left of my sanity.
A curtsey for the Heff joke praise - thanks M'am!
Quirky - yes, though one does wonder what will happen with talk radio once we all implode. The only silver lining - no more Rush? I imagine it will probably be him, the cockroaches and Keith Olbermann left standing.
Brenda - I too was amazed by the tabloid feel of it all. At least the 5 minutes that I watched.
Joanna - wise words, my dear. I promise, I'll try my best!
Swirl - "Bi-Partisan Bootie Calling," LOL! Maybe it's because all the Dems are too busy high-fiving and give 'em hell for getting caught? TOTALLY joking!!! I don't care what side of the aisle you belong to - keep your pants ON! Though I'm dying to see if a woman ever gets caught in the act. I'm guessing they're too smart to either a) do it, or b) get caught. How's that for biased?
Thanks for all the good vacation vibes. I cannot wait!
Andrea - you snuck in as I was typing, naughty girl :-) Thanks!!!
And in your haste to get out of town, you failed to acknowledge that the late, great FF was a Native Texan. Corpus Christi and UT, I believe.
PS: I'm still baffled about why the wives get blamed when the husbands go philandering. Is this called putting a certain "spin" on the story?
The news over here is that North Korea is going to shoot a missle at Hawaii on the 4th...
Wow!!! You're CNN and Entertainment Tonight all rolled into one. Thank you, I no longer need to read a newspaper, I'll just come over and visit. :))
Enjoy your vacation.
I will be needing more than valium if the cap & trade bill passes.
Have a great vacay!
I love your political rants today!
I hope that you have a good vacation! You deserve it!
I bow to you my friend. Seriously...you're searching for Lo-Pro cheese slices and prepping for a major road trip and you can still manage to pull that piece of writing together??I'll say it every damn time...you are my Friday hero. I can read nothing else after your FFFT posts....everything else pales in comparison.
Can not wait to hear about your trip.....it's gonna be awesome!!!
My oldest son just pointed out that we've lost icons from 4 different decades. McMahon became big in the 60s, Farah in the 70s, Michael in the 80s and we just lost the OxyClean guy (Billy Mays) who was famous in 00s (how do you shorten that decade?) for his OxyClean pitch.
Maybe the 90s were spared.
Have fun at the beach! And I'll take a drip castle, please. :)
I'm with Annie.
I'm sure you'll have tons to talk about by then.
I thoroughly enjoyed your "rant"....
I thought deaths came in threes only but then Billy Mays died and I'm all flustered. Who is next? I won't even speculate about HH in case he really does kick the bucket.
Enjoy your vacation!
BTW, if you're near a computer, my youngest just launched a photo blog, and I'm shamelessly trolling for traffic. Please visit my site to see what she's got going, and pay her a visit!
Hope you enjoy/enjoyed vacation... just returned with 5 slices of cheese and a bag of shredded left over - but you never know what you will need (also 6 extra cans of formula, but running out of that is more tragic than running out of cheese).
Safe travels and happy return - I will reserve any comment on the rest for when you are back :-)
