I'm going to risk annoying a load of parents by confessing my true feelings - Hannah Montana, you annoy the tar out of me.
It's not your Southern accent that is somewhat grating (this from a person who grew up in the South), and it's not because you have me completely stumped over how you can possibly sing with those choppers.
Seriously, your teeth scare me.
No Miley/Hannah, it's because your song "The Climb" affects me like no Disney Machine-generated, teen-pop-star-diddy has a right to.
I get goosebumps when the song transitions from just piano to full accompaniment (is that the correct music lingo?)
I become weepy with your lyrics of how life is an uphill battle, because yes, on some days, it really is.
I want to yell "sing it sister!" when you tell me to keep moving and keep the faith.
But then I remember that you're 16 years old.
16!
Easy for me to say, but when I look back on the stresses I had then, I'm able to confidently say I had no clue.
Absolutely none.
Which frankly, scares the crap out of me. As it should you too, Miley. Because what happens in 10 years when we both look back - you on the glory days before rehab and bankruptcy? Me on when my kids were relatively easy and not driving?
OMG!
So forgive me if I stop listening to Radio Disney for awhile. I'm totally sick of the Jonas Brothers' squeaky "Paranoid" anyway.
Sorry.
(For my friends, I offer up "The Climb" for your listening pleasure, in case you have no idea what I'm talking about. Fair warning, you might want to close your eyes and just listen to the lyrics instead of watching this cheesalicious tribute to Pink Floyd. It almost kills the song for me. Almost.)

EXACTLY!!! I love the words and find myself belting it out at the top of my lungs. I have to try not to think about the silly little girl who sings it.
Love your blog!
Have a good one
jackie
Ditto what demented mom said, except I did not know it was Miley and now that I do it has tainted the song for me. I mean, really, anyone who has found the kind of success she has at such a young age has absofuckinglutely no idea what she is singing about.
I've climbed some hills. I've got some stories little girl.
Well it could've been worse. It could've been a duet with daddy Billy Ray or...
It could've been Miranda Cosgrove!
heh heh
*ducking away quickly*
Ah, life at 16 IS ROUGH. It IS an uphill battle. 16 is the new 40 apparently... :)
oh Gawd. i hate that song and Miley. her voice sucks. someone with a seasoned voice who has climbed some actual hills should sing the song
I find myself quoting the duet with her daddy "hurry up don't grow" even more than this song.
love the pink floyd reference! Never realized the similarity with the whole trianlge thing...
maybe , all those years ago. Billy Ray was doing something that actually would be considered cool.
oh- my achy breaky heart
I am cracking up over here! I had to read simply because of the title. I love the words as well but it's a little sick that a child is singing them. She has no clue. I just have to remember she is not sixteen when I am belting it out right along with her.
I love this song. I'm thinking the actual writers of this song know a little more about life than she does. But I still remember being that young and thinking I had been through a lot and that my trials were hard. Little did I know what was ahead.
That video *did* kill it for me.
That and the fact that I *cannot stand* Miley, her alter ego with the bad, blonde wig, or her Always Be A Mullet To Me father.
Gag.
Kiddo has a peripheral knowledge of who Hannah Montana is thanks to classmates who are obsessed. Kiddo doesn't know a single word to a single HM song, nor has she ever watched the show. I'm going to try to keep it that way as *long* as possible, too.
Shudder.
I find myself singing this song too and then immediately hating myself for it.
Dang it Miley!
And by the way, when I was 16? I knew EVERYTHING. I knew all there was to know.
I wish now, at closing-in-on-38, that I knew half of what I was so certain I knew back then.
She sings that? It's so over now.
i like her okay. her voice doesn't sound like anyone i know ... and i grew up in miss'ippi. that bugs for sure.
my daughter is 3 and not interested in her. so that might help. ie: i don't HAVE to be subjected to her 382738974 times a day. so i could see how she'd become very annoying ... quickly. :)
She doesn't bug me to much and the 6 yo is a huge fan. I gave it and got concert tix for Oct. Maybe I'll boot leg a live copy of teh song for you!
I'm sure, in the future, looking back, she will realize that she didn't know anything back when she was 16.
But, I have to say (and I truly can't stand the Disney machine in general, so it's not a defense of the girl just for the sake of defending her) that when you actually ARE 16, it damn sure feels hard.
Don't you all remember that feeling? If not, be thankful you had relatively easy teen years. I'd rather be 39 than 16 any day of the week, and I have the book full of angsty, maudlin poetry to prove it.
Miley just gets to record hers!
So is your problem with Miley, or yourself? I'm confused.
LMAO, I have a scheduled post on Miley that's coming up tomorrow. Great minds.....
Haha...I just turned on the TV and lo and behold there was SCREECH...MILEY! She was giggling and that was too much Miley for me. Changed the channel.
Then I read your post. Eerie, don't you think?
liked her OK, my boys don't listen to her (or radio Disney)... catch the show once in a while and found it to be a non-entity... BUT then I saw her in an interview and she was an inarticulate silly imbicile sounding lump and now I will try hard not to support the machine that is her career....when she has matured we can talk...
In one of those spooky timing things, The Climb just came on the radio right as I opened your page. I'm not afraid to say I'm a little freaked out right now.
I also really hate it when I find myself singing along to that damn song. I better go do something manly.
Ha! No offense taken, as long as you won't hold it against me that I kinda like that kooky ol' Hannah/Miley. And I REALLY like that song! (What? It's how K and I bond) =)
wtf is she doing singing about that for? like she knows anything about uphill battles! eat dirt miley
I definately know The Climb. Two 11 yr old girls in the car. Know what I'm sayin?
Great minds truly think alike b/c I am totally working a post similar to this. Please take it as a compliment. ;)
ugh ugh ugh
Keep all that garbage away from my daughter so I can screw her up all by myself.
And I'm doing a fine job.
But 16 year olds know EVERYTHING, at least mine did. Its the one year in life when you have all everything figured out and have all the answers.
She will very soon go the way of Brook Shields and LeeAnn Rhimes, its inevitable.
I LOVE LOVE this song and I really like Hanna Montana and Miley. I like wholesome fun. I can not stand Bratz "dolls". My 7 year old daughter agrees. She thinks the climb is about tress but then again she is 7.
Loves,
NAVYWIFE
thank you thank you thank you for your comment! Im so happy to be back on my blog and to see you here :) Its been a while but im back and hopefully tougher! Its def. been a rough week but I know what im doing is good and soon these meanies will be gone...at least i hope they will
The first time I heard this song, I turned to my friend and said, "it's such a shame that she is the one singing this."
I can not stand the girl whatsoever. I don't even think at 18 I could sing that song and known what I'm truly talking about!
Oh and I'm really amused at how her ex boyfriend was a 21 yr old model who modeled mostly underwear. That sounds like a good bf for a "good little Christian girl".
Can she fall off this hill that she's climbing? Please?
I'd rather have my kid listen to Lady Gaga. I'm going to make a great mom....
that was GREAT!!
And I agree- that song rally touches me.
but she's 16? geesh.
No - I'm with you, I have a girl about to be 7. She loves HM but slowly is drifting to Taylor Swift & some others. I'm just waiting for HM to be a thing of the past or change in a BIG way something please!
When you hear that voice all the time it gets old no matter what's coming out of it. The show has some good features, but my kids think that they can use the same disrespectful words & tones with me - nope not happening - so when I realized that was where some of our word choices were coming from - we had to re think HM. I found my disappointed with Cyrus & Disney, they should know the age span of their viewers is 3 or 4yrs old & up.
I absolutely agree - we heard it a zillion times during our drive from Louisiana back to PA, and I LOVE the song, but had trouble making the 16 year old connection... ;)
I couldn't agree with you mom, stopping by from SITS, love your blog! Look forward to reading more....
I do love that damn song.
Curse you, Miley!!!
I just recently did a post about how embarrassed I am that I actually like her songs, esp The Climb, which I have on my iPod. My kids love her music too.
I often find myself singing along to The Climb and Butterfly Fly Away...the words are beautifully written, I have to admit that. I get chills too.
my favorite song...cried at the movie....
and yeah...she has no idea..but she has YET to start the climb.
me?
I am hanging off of the other side of the cliff...
but I'm singing while doing it!
it's all relative, right? I find that each person can identify with this song and that is what has made it a complete success. I didn't know she sand it, and I don't really even know her but I feel the song is great.
I am, however, lmao at "16 is the new 40" and that all of these bloggers are going to write about her.
Happy thursday, yo.
Her teeth totally scare me too! :)
I was singing along to that song in the car not too long ago, when one of my boys pointed out to me it was Miley. I had no idea. I also remember a couple of years ago borrowing my husbands ipod for a run. i busted up laughing when "Best of Both Worlds" came on. Too funny
oooh geesh. This little girl drives em nuts. But yea, I agree...the song is ok.
